Nymindegab Familie Camping on Denmark’s West Coast
Hidden behind the rolling sand hills of Denmark’s west coast, you will find the small town of Nymindegab and one of the best camping places in Denmark. If you can’t tell from the words in its name, Nymindegab Familie Camping is a perfect, Danish campground for families! Whether it is from being in the pool, on the playground, on the mini-golf course, or in the game room, your family will agree that Nymindegab Familie Camping it is a great place to camp.
Check-in
Though the check-in process was quite quick and easy, I have to say that we were a bit surprised to find the campground office closed when we arrived. Apparently, there is a 12:00 noon to 2:00pm closing time for the reception and the campground store. Since we arrived at 12:47pm, we had to wait a while.

Luckily for us, there was a picnic table near the entrance where we ate our lunch. The boys visited the playground afterwards, which also made time go by much faster. Once the information desk opened at 2:00pm, we were able to get our access card to open the gate and drove to our spot.
Finding our spot at the campground
Finding our spot was quite easy since we were close to the main entrance.
Of the 318 camping spots that they have at Nymindegab Familie Camping, we just may have gotten the best one. Situated across from the playground with a short walk to the bathhouse, spot 144 was our home for the Pentecost weekend that we spent on Denmark’s west coast.
We were glad to be in such an ideal spot, where we could watch the boys hopping on the hopping pillow and enjoy the sounds of children all around us.
Our spot was also one of many “comfort spots” that were bigger spots than the others. A couple of them were around the playground, while others were on the outskirts of the campground. We also liked that we were close to the bathhouse and kitchen building.

Bathhouse at Nymindegab Familie Camping
Throughout the campsite, there were a few different bathhouses. It is always hard to know what a campground bathroom building will look like, and in my opinion, it really makes a difference to the overall impression of the place. To my surprise, the inside of the bathhouse looked newly remodeled with modern design and was very clean. It was actually quite pretty.
There were some rooms that just had a toilet and sink. While other rooms just had a shower and a sink. I really liked the shower and sink option. This really made it quite easy to get ready in the mornings.
They also had an all-in-one bathroom that seemed to be a good fit for a wheelchair. It had a shower, sink and toilet. The only thing about this bathroom was that you had to pay to take a shower. The other showers were free, however.
For babies and smaller children, there was a “baby bathroom”. This had a sink, changing table/tub and a toilet that was very small and close to the ground!
Indoor and Outdoor Kitchen at Nymindegab Familie Camping
Within the same building as our bathhouse was also a small kitchen. It had two sinks, four stove tops and two ovens. Outside the kitchen was much more space with many picnic tables, outdoor grills and sinks. It was all under a shelter, which made it easy to use during any type of weather.
I say small, because next to the reception and store, there is a larger kitchen with more of everything. It even had a larger dining area for larger gatherings.
Giant Playground at Nymindegab Familie Camping
When we drove up to the entrance to the campground in Nymindegab, we noticed the colors of the large, red and yellow slide right away. I was quite amazed at the sight of the playground right away, but it was actually bigger than I had first thought.
Large Climbing Tower and Slide
What we had seen from the main entrance was the slide to the larger climbing tower. This was much taller than other playgrounds we had been to, and it seemed a great size for many children to enjoy. They also had a fun zipline just to the side of the playground.
Smaller Climbing Tower and Slide
They also had a couple, smaller climbing towers with slides, which were great for smaller children and even toddlers. To the side was a little playhouse and fun climbing bars.
Swings
Multiple types of swings were spread out on the playground. They had the typical, one-seat swings, and they also had a swing that looked like a large spiderweb. I think these are very “Scandinavian” since I have seen them mostly in Danish and Swedish campgrounds and playgrounds. The boys and I enjoy swinging together in one of these types of swings, and apparently, so does my husband! 🙂
Teeter Totter and Rocking Horses
Also, spread out around the playgrounds were other smaller objects like rocking horses that weren’t really horses at all. They were other fun animals. They also had a larger teeter totter that could easily fit many children at once.
Hopping Pillows
For my boys, however, the large, hopping pillow was where they spent most of their time. I can’t imagine why kids like to bounce so much, but I am so happy for these things. The boys are always having a great time on them and tend to meet new friends. They also had a smaller, hopping pillow for the smaller children to enjoy!
Other Fun Areas for the Kids
There were a few other areas that could be fun for both parents and children!
Petting the Animals near the Playground
Not only did the playground have a lot of variety, but it also had a section with goats. It was nice to see children going into their pen to visit them. Especially for us, since our camper was across the path from them.
Moon Cars
If you have the type of child who likes a bit more action, you might want to rent a moon car. These are made for larger children, but there are multiple seats for more than one to enjoy. Check in the reception for details on renting a moon car. They have prices for 2 hours intervals or for the entire day!
Swimming Pool and Sauna at Nymindegab Familie Camping
When we go camping in Denmark, it is always a plus if we can find a campground that is either close to the beach or one that has its own pool. Nymindegab really delivered when it came to a great pool! As we waited at the entrance for the reception to open on that first day, we had a great view of the swimming pool.
Huge Slides
The pool had four LARGE slides that emptied into their own small pool of water. There was also an area near the end of the slides with water guns and sprinklers. Be careful when walking on the outside of the swimming pool in this area. You may feel a sudden shower! ?
My boys spent most of the time in the main part of the pool. This was the largest section. In the middle of it was a hot tub, and to the side of this pool was a separate pool. This was much shallower and seemed to be popular with smaller children.
Warm Water
The one thing that really surprised me was how warm the water was. On your way into the campground, you will see the words “27 degrees Celsius” on the sign to the campground. This is quite warm for an average campground pool, so it was no surprise to see so many people enjoying the water!
Japanese Garden-Inspired Mini Golf Course
If you have read any of our other camping posts, you would know that we LOVE to play minigolf. We were so excited to find a great minigolf course at Nymindegab Familie Camping during our visit. This 12-hole golf course was a great place to practice our skills. It was well designed and had many interesting obstacles. If you are golfing in a group of four or more, the winner can get an ice cream!!
Of course, we were all very serious about our playing, but we had not anticipated the professional skills of Farmor (Danish for “grandma”), who ended the game with the best score. ? I have to say that it was easier for her to win than it would have been for one of my boys to win with the other not getting an ice cream. LOL No one got mad at Farmor for winning!!
TV and and Game Room at Nymindegab Familie Camping
Let’s face it! Denmark can be a rainy place. That is why it is always nice to find campgrounds that offer something INSIDE, as well. At Nymindegab Familie Camping, they not only had a room with a TV, which was great for kids to take a break from the playground or swimming pool, but they also had an awesome game room.
I am a child of the 1980s, and walking into this room was like a memory coming to life. They had a number of different arcade games, table tennis, air hockey and pool. It was really a fun place! My husband and I really enjoyed playing pinball, since it feels that we haven’t done that in forever! The boys had fun with the combat/karate game. It was really cool to be able to do something I enjoyed as a child with my kids!
Of course, we also had fun playing table tennis…we love that game!
The “Hidden” Ball Field
To be honest, it wasn’t called the “hidden” ball field. I just named it this, because it was a place that I couldn’t find at first. If you are looking to play soccer or football during your time at Nymindegab Familie Camping, take your map with you when on your search for the soccer field. You will have better luck than I did on my first search.
Situated away from the entrance, playground and swimming pool, the ball field was enclosed with short walls to help keep the ball playing in one place. It was a good idea to keep this away from where the campsites were located for that reason.
Firepit (Bål)
Since camping in Denmark doesn’t allow you to make a fire at your campsite, it is always good to know where the communal firepit is located. On the map, this is referred to as the “bålplads”. You may want to check with the campground if there are any special times when they will light the fire.
It can be a fun place for the kids to roast marshmallows or bake snobrød, a Danish, childhood MUST! Next to the firepit, you will also find an outdoor table for playing tennis table. We always travel with our own paddles and balls for the chance we will find tables like these! 🙂
Campground Store in Nymindegab
The store at the campground had everything we needed, which is usually snacks, candy and butter. It is always nice to get the few necessities at the campground without having to go far. It was also an added bonus that they had not only “gammeldags is” (real ice cream), but they also had popsicles and things from the cooler. You can, of course, find other items for your meals there, and you can also buy fresh bread in the mornings.
Take Away Food and Salad Bar
Had we arrived around suppertime like we normally do when going camping, we would have definitely taken advantage of the take-away food items. It was much like going to get fast food, but we didn’t have to drive anywhere. They even had a salad bar, where you could make a take-away salad. We bought a salad there a couple of times as a side dish for our suppers at the campground! It was very yummy!
Renting a Cabin at Nymindegab Familie Camping
Where is a good place to stay on Denmark’s west coast without a camper? Nymindegab Familie Camping also has a variety of cabins for rent. You can choose between cabins (“hytter”) for 2, 5 or 6 people. These come fully equipped with appliances and furniture to make you feel all the comforts of home. Some of the larger cabins also have their own bathroom. Read more about the cabins at Nymindegab Familie Camping HERE!
Events at Nymindegab Familie Camping
Throughout the summer months and during some spring holidays, Nymindegab Familie Camping has some special events. You can do gin tasting, go to a pool party, get a dirt bike demonstration, and many more events. We happened to be there during their first pool party of the season. There were some fun activities at the pool for kids and some great music! Follow them on Facebook to learn more about their events: HERE!
Overall Thoughts of Nymindegab Familie Camping
Overall, Nymindegab Famlie Camping is a great place to camp on Denmark’s west coast. The location is a benefit since it is within a short bike ride to the beach, a short drive to many great attractions, and the place for lots of fun! My boys loved the swimming pool and the playground. I loved how nice and clean the bathroom and kitchen facilities were.
Also, the entire place felt very friendly. It didn’t feel that you were staying in a campground with strangers. The staff members were kind and always had a smile.
The mini-golf course was the perfect level of fun and challenge, and we felt eager to return after a few hours out exploring the nearby towns of Hvide Sande and Søndervig. If you are looking for a place that has lots to offer families, I would recommend having a stay at Nymindegab Familie Camping!
