Legoland Holiday Village Campground in Billund, Denmark

When you think of Denmark, you might think of a lot of things, but the one thing that comes quickly to my mind is the word LEGO! Denmark is the land of Lego, so what better way to experience it than to stay at one of Denmark’s best campgrounds for families, the Legoland Holiday Village Campground, where guests are surrounded by visions of Lego wherever they turn?!

Bring your camper or tent and stay in one of the many spacious lots, rent a cabin or tepee with a western or ninja theme, or even stay in one of the rooms at the Pirate Inn. Legoland Holiday Village has lots to offer all types of guests and proves to be one of the best places for camping in Denmark.

Entrance/ Check In / Parking

As we arrived to Legoland Holiday Village with our camper in tow, we noticed the large Lego pirate ship right away.

This is a sponsored post. We want to thank Legoland Holiday Village for giving us a free stay at their campground. All thoughts are my own. This post may also contain affiliate links, which means that at no additional cost to you, I may make a commission if you click on a link and make a purchase.

The parking in front of the entrance was mostly for those checking in and out, so there was a 30-minute time limit to park there. However, parking passes for those visiting guests of the Legoland Holiday Village were easily obtained from the reception. We only parked there briefly as we went to the reception building to check in.

Check-in was very easy and kid-friendly, since each of the counters were equipped with steps that led up to the counters. My boys loved being able to look the workers in the eye, and they quickly took on the responsibility of checking us in and getting a map. The reception was open 24 hours, so we were happy to know that we weren’t under a time restraint when it came to checking in.

After getting our site location and entrance card, we drove back to our spot at the end of the main road.

Themed Areas / Lodging Options / Playgrounds

From the map, we could see that there were many cabins, areas for tents and tepees and a motel near the reception. Legoland Holiday Village had every option for visitors looking for places to stay in Billund, and proved to be more than just a place to park your camper.

It was also a place where many different travelers and families from all across the world could come together to share their love of adventure and, of course, of Lego. Check out where you can stay when visiting Legoland Amusement Park in Billund, Denmark at the Legoland Holiday Village Campground!

Pirate Inn

The first lodging area at Legoland Holiday Village was just to the left of the entrance and called the Pirate Inn. Here, you could find 50 rooms in various two-story buildings. All were pirate-themed with two different playgrounds.

Since the main parking lot was just next to the motel, there were no issues with finding a place to park for the guests of Pirate Inn. They just needed a pass in their windows that showed they were guests of the motel.

Playgrounds at the the Pirate Inn

My boys loved that they could play in a pirate ship playground. Pirates were also one of their most favorite Lego themes, so why not play a game of “let’s pretend” at one of Denmark’s best campgrounds for families. Though this playground was located at the motel, it was still accessible and open to the rest of the visitors at the village.

I loved the idea that the the smaller, lighthouse playground was visible from the restaurant, so children could play outside as the parents waited inside for the food. All the while, mom and dad could have a nice kid-free chat while still being able to keep an eye on the kids.

My husband and I call these “date moments”! 🙂 It is always nice to find time for a “date moment” when camping, since so much time is spent with the kids.

Wild West Cabins

The first set of cabins in the Legoland Holiday Village were the Wild West Cabins. These were found all throughout the center of the village, and visitors could choose from three different-sized cabins to meet the needs of their family. Each cabin had a wild-west theme and were nestled comfortably in a very shaded area with many trees. Next to each cabin was a space to park your car, so you would have everything you needed for a great weekend in the “woods”!

A little bit of USA in this Danish Campground

This area of Legoland Holiday Village really gave you the feeling of being in a forest camp in the U.S.A.! There were also many wooden signs with Lego animals that announced to visitors the many sections of the the Wild West area, which were named after the animals on display.

There were also two fun playgrounds in the area of the cabins. Both were made out of wood and offered different options for fun from a tire swing to a climbing wall to slides.

When looking for campgrounds, we always check to see if there will be enough to keep our very active boys busy, so it was easy to chose Legoland Holiday Village as our vacation destination. It proved to be one of Denmark’s best campgrounds for families just based on the size and options of playgrounds. I couldn’t think of any other place that offered as many different ways for our boys to explore and play.

Wilderness Barrels

The cabins at the far end of the campground are probably the smallest in the campground. They are perfect for couples or families of 4 with very small children. They offer just enough space to sleep, but who needs more room when you’ll be out of the cabin and on the playgrounds most of the time?!

Directly across from these quaint little cabins is a very large playground with many options. It is also the only spot at Legoland Holiday Village where you will find not one but two jumping pillows: one for smaller children and one for bigger children and adults.

My boys loved the jumping pillows, and since we were located closest to this playground, they played there most often. They had so much fun on the zip line and other areas of the playground as well.

It was easy to relax here after a day at Legoland, and we even found that we were choosing to spend more time at the Legoland Holiday Village than we originally planned because we wanted extra time to get the full experience of each and every playground and activity.

Indian Camp

During the summer months, visitors can choose to stay in a tepee instead of a cabin or camper. There is a tepee camp that is located just behind the Wilderness playground, and each site has its own picnic table with a parking lot just next to the entrance of the camp.

We were there in the spring, so the tepees weren’t available yet.

Tent Camping

In the back corner of the Legoland Holiday Village, you will find a section for tent campers. This quiet spot was surrounded by trees and had a large, communal barbecue site. Campfires at tent or camper sites were not allowed in campgrounds in Denmark, so it was nice to find large areas such as these for those visitors wanting to make their food over the grill.

Lego Ninjago Cabins

If I had to pick the coolest spot in the entire Legoland Holiday Village, I would have pick the Lego Ninjago area. I might be a bit biased in this decision, since I have two boys who LOVE Ninjago. We can’t get through an entire day without being influenced by Lego Ninjago in some way.

If we ever choose to stay at Legoland Holiday Village without our camper, we will definitely be staying in one of the Lego Ninjago cabins. They can fit up to 6 people, but I think it would be perfect for our family of 4, especially since it comes with its own bathroom and bunk beds for the boys.

If the cabin isn’t enough to persuade some visitors into thinking that Legoland Holiday Village is one of Denmark’s best campgrounds for families, they just need to have one look at the playground to be convinced.

My boys LOVED the Lego Ninjago playground at Legoland Holiday Village. It was, by far, the “coolest” playground they had ever been on, and that was a direct quote from my children! 🙂 If you have a child who likes Ninjago, this is the best place for him/her. You will never find another place that offers so much to the imagination!

Shower House and Kitchen

When camping in Europe, we rely heavily on the shower building for our, so it was very important that the Legoland Holiday Village had good, clean facilities.

2 Locations for Shower / Kitchen Buildings

Since many of the cabins have bathrooms and also some had small kitchens, there were only two main sanitary buildings in Legloand Holiday Village. There was one in the Wilderness area and one in the Lego Ninjago area. We were closer to the one in the Wilderness area, and I have to say that we were very pleased with what we found.

Not only did it have a large number of family bathrooms, which is so helpful for families, it also had separate men’s and women’s shower and toilet rooms. One side of the building was for showers, while the other was for toilets.

A little added LEGO charm in the decorations

The entire building was decorated with pictures and posters of western Lego cowboys and Native Americans, which was very cute. I also appreciated that the family shower rooms had two shower heads: one was higher up for adults and one was lower for children.

We also found that there was a sink large enough to wash a baby, which I am sure many parents could appreciate!

The bathroom / kitchen building in the Ninjago area had a Ninja theme.

The kitchens were a nice size and included a sinks and stovetops.

Outside the kitchen/bath building was also a smaller building for dining, watching TV and playing pool. We often saw many families sitting in this room instead of in their campers, and my boys sat in there for a short time one day to wind down after a long day of playing. They were happy to find a Lego Ninjago show playing on the TV.

Just outside both buildings was a little play area and large, communal grill. I could imagine that it would be nice for little ones to play there as mom or dad did the cooking, since the bigger kids could go alone to the larger playground that was across the street from the bathhouse.

Fun Extra Activities at Legoland Holiday Village Campground

If you are looking for something else to do than plan on one of the many, wonderful playgrounds, you are in luck. Legoland Holiday Village has other fun activities for kids and families.

Animals

Legoland Holiday Village also had other options for family entertainment. One such choice was an animal area just next to the Wilderness Playground. Here, you could find donkeys and goats grazing along a beautiful pond with a water jet in the middle.

It was a very peaceful spot that we visited often during our time there. My boys really loved visiting with the animals, and I loved the decor of the “western-looking” building that was a part of this “farm” of sorts.

Scavenger Hunt

One way to get to know the campground was to go on the scavenger hunt. Children received a scavenger hunt paper on arrival to Legoland Holiday Village in a welcome booklet. My boys had a great time exploring the campground this way as they went all over looking for 6 different letters to spell out a mystery word.

Special LEGO prizes at the Campground

After they completed the hunt, the boys turned in their papers to a mail box that was located just inside the building to the restaurant. The next morning, they checked in the reception building to see if they won a small LEGO set, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be this trip. Children could go to the reception every day of their visit to request a new form, and try to win the Lego prize daily.

I thought that this was a nice incentive offered by Legoland Holiday Village. It encouraged the children (and parents) to be active and also gave them an excuse to see all of the grounds. We even had fun doing it!

Moon Cars

For a small fee, you could rent moon cars from the store. They had lots to choose from, and with the great paved roads throughout the grounds, you could have a lot of fun touring Legoland Holiday Village in style via your moon car.

Mini Golf at Legoland Holiday Village Campground

Off to the side of Legoland Holiday Village near the Lego Ninjago area, you can find a nice, 18-hole mini-golf course. This is probably the only place in the entire village where you won’t find it decorated by Lego figures or animals.

Instead, this mini-golf course is sponsored by local businesses in Billund and maintained by the Men’s Y group and local scout groups. Though we were eager to do all things Lego, we never miss out on a chance to play mini-golf at a campground.

Golfing for a good cause

I actually was glad to be playing on a course that gave back to the community, since the fee we paid for playing went towards these local scout groups. My children are also members of a scout group, so I was very glad to help out other scouts in Denmark.

Restaurant and Take Away at the Legoland Campground

Since we arrived at Legoland Holiday Village just after supper time, we were looking to buy our food instead of make it. Luckily, we had a great restaurant and take away right there in the village.

Pirate Inn Restaurant at Legoland Campground

The Pirate Inn Restaurant, located at the front of Legoland Holiday Village, had a great buffet of different types of meats, fish, salad and more. They even had a breakfast buffet, and the best part of it all was that it had some great Lego pirate figures and pirate ships to keep the kids entertained.

Captain’s Takeaway

At the back of the restaurant was the Captain’s Take Away where families could easily order suppers like chicken and pizza to enjoy back at their cabin or camper. We love campgrounds that offer food choices, and the food options at Legoland Holiday Village Campground were perfect for any family, who wants to enjoy camping without cooking!

The Store at the Legoland Holiday Village Campground

We really enjoyed having picnic-style lunches in our camper and experienced a bit of Danish hygge with a nice breakfast of rolls and jam one morning. We can thank the Legoland Holiday Village store for the fresh bread for these meals. It was a treat to find all we needed for lunch and breakfast at the store. Also, getting fresh bread is always a plus.

If you find that you are lacking any camping supplies, you can easily get what you needed in the Legoland Holiday Village Campground store. They had everything you could even think to take camping.

More than a typical Campground Store

I was so happy to see the large section of frozen items, meats, cheeses and breads at the store at the Legoland Campground. My husband and I were glad that we didn’t have to venture off into the town to find a grocery store.

My boys also liked shopping there. Let’s face it, though, if you are traveling with kids, you are more likely to visit the store for two reasons: candy and ice cream! Luckily, the store at the Legoland Holiday Village had both! They even had an entire wall of Lego items for sale.

Other Amenities

Legoland Holiday Village also had extra amenities such as:

  • Bed Linen to Rent
  • Dog Forest Area
  • Washing Machines and Tumble Dryers
  • Fire extinguishers Throughout the Village
  • Discounted Tickets to Legoland
  • 2 Garbage and Recycling Areas (Ninjago area and to the right of the store)

Overall Impressions

We absolutely loved our time at Legoland Holiday Village. It truly felt that it was one of Denmark’s best campgrounds for families. We loved the options for dining and shopping, and the playgrounds kept our children happy and entertained at the campground. Giving back to the local community was really rewarding at the mini-golf course. We had more fun on this course than on most others!

The sanitation buildings were clean, and it was so great to have lots of family bathrooms. We didn’t have to wait for a room to get the boys ready for bed.

My Advice To Legoland Holiday Village

If I could offer Legoland Holiday Village any advice, it would be to have more benches around the playgrounds. This is helpful for parents and grandparents who would like to sit when watching their children play. Other than that, we feel that this campground couldn’t get much better. We loved that we were in walking distance to Lalandia and Legoland!! We will definitely recommend Legoland Holiday Village to anyone visiting Billund.
