Checking in and Entrance to Donaupark Camping Tulln
The entrance to Donaupark Camping was along a very shady path. We didn’t have to bake in the sunshine while we parked on the road to wait our turn for check in. It was raining very hard when we arrived, so that wouldn’t have been a problem on that day anyway.
We got a map and went to park our camper. The set up of the spots was quite interesting compared to other campground I had been to before.
We were arranged in a circle, so it felt more like a little neighborhood than just a random spot. We seemed to be placed in the Netherlands section, since all of the other campers in our circle were from NL.
Some had children, and others were couples. In the center of all the campers was a little shelter that had a water faucet. We didn’t have far to go to water for our water bottles. Since it was too wet to set up our tent, we decided to skip cooking in the camper that night and check out the restaurant.
Restaurant “Taverne2” at Donaupark Camping Tulln
The rain seemed to make many people want to eat out, so we ended up making a later-than-normal reservation at the restaurant at the campground. I think it was closer to 7pm, which wasn’t too bad of a time. We were just hungry after a long day of driving.
We arrived a bit early to Taverne2 and took some places at the bar, which the boys enjoyed. They loved sitting in the high stools and ordering a drink. We met a nice man from Germany, who was actually an immigrant from another country. It was a funny type of person to meet, since I am an immigrant myself. We had a nice chat in German until our table was ready.
The food at the restaurant was all local dishes. My husband was excited for the schnitzel, while I enjoyed a nice vegetarian meal. The lame kids got burgers and fries, but they were quite large and delicious (so they said).
The atmosphere was quite cozy and nice, and there was an open door leading to the playground. Had it been dryer that day, it would have been nice to sit outside at one of the patio tables.
Playground and Sports Area at Donaupark Camping Tulln
One spot that we always check out first at a campground is the playground. The boys have so much energy to burn off that the playground is a must or bust! The playground at Donaupark Camping Tulln was near the front of the campground next to the restaurant. It was behind some trees, so you might have completely missed it had you not been looking for it.
The playground is excellent for smaller children since many of the areas are lower to the ground. However, my 8 and 11 year old still find it fun when the rain stopped.
Side note: We are from Denmark where there is a lot of rain, so my kids would have happily played on it in the rain, had I let them. LOL

The campground also had pickle ball courts, which is something I haven’t seen in other places. This is something that you would need to reserve, and they were more often used by adults than children.
Shop at the Campground and Finding Groceries
Donaupark Camping Tulln had a shop that looked more like a stand, located outside the main building. It opened every morning to serve fresh rolls for breakfast, which is often something that you will need to order in advance.
They had other items for sale and tables for enjoying your food. This was a nice thing for those who were tent camping. We always enjoy getting fresh bread or rolls at least once when we go on camping trip! The catch with this shop was that it was only open for a few hours in the morning.
For groceries, we went outside the campground. Luckily, we were in walking distance to a grocery store where we bought food to stock up our little refrigerator. We ate many of our meals in our camper, but the town of Tulln has many great places to eat. Learn more about our Day out in Tulln, Austria!
Bathroom and Kitchen Facilities
The bathroom and kitchen buildings were quite clean. There was one building that was for toilets with sinks located outside.
Across from that was the shower, laundry and kitchen building. Luckily, I never had to wait in line for the shower.
The kitchen was quite small with some sinks and stove burners, but since we were there in nice weather, we didn’t use it.
There were sinks located outside the building for washing dishes. This was nice, but if I could offer some advice to the campground, it would be to have more garbage cans near these sinks. They had picnic tables close by, which was helpful if we had to wait for a sink.
Bike Rental at Donaupark Camping Tulln
One very popular thing to do in Tulln, Austria or in Lower Austria all together is biking / cycling. Tulln is actually one of the flatter parts of Austria, so biking around the countryside is a very easy and fun thing to do. We didn’t take many bike trips as a family before this trip, and we thought it would be a perfect beginning, biking trip with kids.
Since we didn’t have our bikes with us on this trip, we were very happy to be able to rent bikes from Donaupark Camping. However, we did remember to bring our bike helmets with us for such an occasion.

We just needed to make sure to do it in advance, since their bikes are often rented out. If you want to read about our bike trip in this area of Austria, check out this POST. We had a very relaxing and fun day!
Renting a Cabin at Donaupark Camping in Tulln, Austria
Had we not been traveling with our own camper caravan, we would have wanted to find a great campground with plenty of cabins for rent. Donaupark camping had that. Though, I am sure it is always important to plan ahead and make reservations, if you are looking for a cabin in lower Austria, you can find it there.
On a walk of the campground, we noticed many cabins of different sizes that seemed very new and well-maintained.
Aubad Swimming Pond and Sports Area in Tulln, Austria
A major highlight of our visit to Donaupark Camping was the free passes to the Aubad swimming pond. Located next to the campground, the Aubad was a great place to cool off on a warm day. Though Donaupark Camping Tulln didn’t have their own swimming pool, getting passes to the Aubad was the next best thing.
The walk to the Aubad was only a couple of minutes, and we easily spend an entire afternoon there. The pond had two large slides, and there was a roped, shallow section for swimming. You could rent paddle boats, play beach volleyball or eat a meal at their restaurant.
Events and Entertainment at Donaupark Camping Tulln
During the summer, there are many events at Donaupark Camping. Unfortunately for us, we arrived a bit too early in the season for them. We were there in the beginning of July, and some of the events were starting the week after we left. However, they have other attractions that are for the entire summer months. One of them includes a wine tour by bus. Read more about that HERE.
There are also great cultural events that take place in the town of Tulln an der Donau. You can find out more HERE.
Day Trips from Donaupark Camping Tulln
Visit Tulln an der Donau
If you are wondering why Donaupark Camping Tulln is such a great location, let me tell you more. When we stayed there, we were very excited to tour the town. Though it isn’t very big, there are many nice churches, monuments, and historical attractions to see in Tulln. They have interesting artifacts dating back to the Roman times and one of the most beautiful, family-friendly, botanical gardens in Austria.

Visit Vienna, Austria
Visit Klosterneuberg
Another great spot for a quick trip is to the town of Klosterneuburg. Here, you will find an impressive Augustinian abbey that dates back over 900 years. It also has one of the best places to buy wine in the area, its wine cellar. You can turn the Klosterneuburg Abbey winery and learn more about the history of Austria’s oldest wine-growing estate.
Overall Impressions
We couldn’t have asked for a better campground on our trip to Tulln, Austria. Not only was it the perfect location for us to take our lower Austria bike trip, but it was also a great town in itself. There were sights to see, plenty to do for children and a beautiful spot for walks along the promenade.
If you are traveling south for the summer, Donaupark Camping is the best place to take a few days break on your journey. We thought that it was a great place to stop in Austria on our way to Croatia.
If we would have had more time, we would have loved to do more. One thing would have been a boat trip on the Danube (Donau) River or to take a second bike trip along the river to the west. The campground was also very clean, quiet and safe. We also really enjoyed the restaurant and free tickets to the Audbad. Donaupark Camping is just a great choice for camping in Austria!
